Well many of our clients will know me as the cat who is sat at reception, but for those of you who want to know a little bit more, here is how I came to live at Towerwood Vets in Cookridge, north Leeds, West Yorkshire.

It started in 2003, at the time we still had a local branch of the Cats Protection based in Adel, north Leeds, run by volunteers. I was suffering from a skin condition which left me with open, weeping sores around my neck. I came to stay at Towerwood Veterinary Group for treatment and the lovely caring veterinary nurses and vets managed to heal my wounds. I loved the extra attention and cuddles so much that when I returned to Cats Protection they couldn’t believe how well I’d behaved!

When I went back to their holding pens, waiting for a home, I made several bids to escape and was eventually successful. I will never reveal where I went but sure enough I was eventually caught again with the return of my skin disease around my neck. I went back to Towerwood Vets and again made a full recovery.

This whole process repeated three times before the veterinary nurses asked the head vet and owner of Towerwood Vets if I could stay permanently. This is when I turned on the charm! When he came to see me I would wait until he asked and then I would reach up and give him a hug around his neck purring all the time.

So began the persuading of Cats Protection that this was my new home. I even had the volunteers of Adel branch Cats Protection come in to inspect where I would get to stay and give the veterinary nurses and vets the third degree on who would take responsibility for, and take care of me. Cats Protection had to think long and hard if I might be in danger from Tinshill Road which runs between Horsforth Station and Cookridge Hall. However in light of my history and the good work that Towerwood vets had done, Brendan Clarke adopted me in April 2004.

At that time I was estimated at 7 years old (I never did give my date of birth as some things are best left a mystery for a cat). In a very short space of time I settled in making my night time residence in the staffroom accommodation and offices and venturing throughout the practice during the rest of the day. Many clients will see me around the front desk when they come in usually asleep on the front desk unperturbed by even the most vociferous dogs.

Although I love to be the centre of attention my best friend is Sue Snodin, Reception Manager at Towerwood Veterinary Group. I have been working on her for years to bend her to my will for extra treats. Sometimes I will venture out into the neighbourhood to see who else might feed me extra food (even if I don’t need it), I have continued to enjoy the focus of attention all this time but I only really behave when Brendan is around. So be warned if you wake me up when I’m dreaming that I am a large panther hunting in the jungle, I might just catch YOU!

Now I will earn my keep by writing about cats and their problems which I see every day at Towerwood Vets. I hope this will keep you all informed about points of interest to help you take care of your “purrrfect” friend.
